Strong offer of
Fine Paintings and Sculptures at Duveen Auctions,
Groningen (the Netherlands)
At the beginning of
July the “Alvarez” private collection of fine
art will be sold by Duveen Auctions in
Groningen. In the classical part of the sale
works of art by outstanding Impressionists and
Expressionists will come under the hammer, e.g.
a gouache by Paula Modersohn-Becker
“Self-portrait with blue scarf” ( €
10,000/15,000). Charles Camoin will be
represented with seven oil paintings (estimates
between € 3,000 and € 18,000). Furthermore
paintings by Pierre Bélay, Emile-Othon Friesz
(3x), Pierre Henry (2x), Moise Kisling, André
Lebourg, Fernand Léger, André L’Hote (2x),
Willem Parels, Christian Rohlfs, William Henry
Singer, Chaim Soutine and Maurice de Vlaminck. A
great many of these paintings were bought at
well-known auction houses in Paris at the
beginning of 1970, e.g. Etienne Adler, Georges
Blache, Paul Martin, Jean-Louis Picard and
Jacques Tajan.
The “Alvarez”
collection also comprises a number of
magnificent bronze sculptures, e.g. “Le retour
du fils prodigue” by Ossip Zadkine
(€ 35,000/45,000), “Paul – Jeune romain ou mon
frère à seize ans” by Camille Claudel (€
8,000/12,000), “Jeune fille retirante sa chemise”
by Roger de loa Fresnay (€ 7,000/9,000) and
“Harlequin” (€ 18,000/25,000) by Juan Gris.
